After Major Omicron Surge, Health Secretary defends UK move to Plan B that adds New Covid Restrictions & Measures

Health Secretary Sajid Javid in his speech at the parliament on Wednesday 8th December deemed the Omicron variant of coronavirus as more transmissible and a severe threat as compared to the Delta variant.
As the UK records the highest daily increase in Omicron cases, he reiterated the importance of getting a Covid booster dose now more than ever.
Another defence of new antiviral treatments was also mentioned along with plans for making them accessible to thousands across England.

He defended the government’s sudden shift to Plan B of new Covid restrictions saying:

“We’ve always been clear that should the data change and it looked like the NHS might come under unsustainable pressure… we would act and implement plan B.”

PM Boris Johnson announced that from Friday, masks would also be needed in most public indoor venues and a scheme for Covid certificates or a Covid Pass would begin at some venues in a week.

Moreover, people would be asked to work from home where possible. Journalist and broadcaster, Sonia Poulton is amongst the many criticizing these measures.

Charlie Sansom of South Basildon Conservatives resigned live on air, calling the government’s plan of tighter restrictions, a move in a tyrannical direction.

No. 10 Downing Street Christmas Party Ignites a Row – Were Covid Rules flouted?

It has been a dramatic series of events since The Daily Mirror reported last week that an alleged party took place at 10 Downing Street in December last year. A source has confirmed to the BBC that the event has taken place with ‘dozens of people in attendance.

Following the massive outrage, Ms. Allegra Stratton, the then PM’s aide shown in the leaked video, has resigned in a tearful exit.

The viral video was obtained by ITV news showing a Downing Street media briefing rehearsal recorded on 22nd December 2020.

The alleged Downing Street Christmas party took place at a time when the UK was in full lockdown and was battling a Coronavirus wave. However, multiple ministers and PM Boris Johnson have repeatedly denied having broken any Covid rules.
Many are calling for a police investigation and one such user’s tweet went viral.

Giving voice to a large section of the UK population, Mark Harper, MP for the Forest of Dean, questioned why people should listen to the Prime Minister’s Plan B.
