- Individuals from major businesses like TikTok and Tesco were nominated for top honours alongside corporations such as BP and Lloyd’s Banking Group at Britain’s most influential Black, Asian and Minority Ethic awards event
- Farah shortlisted for the prestigious Sports Personality gong ahead of October’s Ethnicity Awards after major career achievements and reclamation of their real name
- Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Edward Enninful will battle it out in the Burberry Inspirational Public Figure category
- Dave, Emeli Sandé and Stormzy are among stars nominated for the music prize, with TV favourite Alison Hammond listed in other categories
The shortlist for the annual Ethnicity Awards, held in association with HSBC UK, has been announced with an array of inspirational celebrities and public figures leading the nominations.
The awards recognise individuals with a track record of working to advance equality and opportunity for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups in society.
Global corporations like BP, Paramount and Lloyd’s Banking Group are in the running for accolades alongside notable individuals including TikTok’s global head of diversity and inclusion Priscilla Baffour and head of buying/supply chain at Tesco Leon Donald plus incredible charities like Sporting Equals who are the only organisation in the UK to promote ethnic diversity across sport and physical activity.
Mandy Mayers at Channel 4 and Ronke Phillips at ITV have been shortlisted for a Workplace Hero Award while Nationwide, GSK and Sainsbury’s will all battle it out under the Network Group category.
Elsewhere, double-double Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah, who just this month opened up about being illegally trafficked to the UK under a false name and forced to work as a domestic servant, is nominated for his phenomenal career achievements and recent reclamation of his real name – Hussein Abdi Kahin.
Meanwhile, big names including Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock have been shortlisted for accolades.
Pinnock is nominated for her activism in fighting against racism and being an example of how a prominent public figure can act and stand up to advance the rights of their communities.
Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful is also nominated in Pinnock’s category. Enninful is a fundamental part of the fashion industry, having used his platform to promote inclusion across the board.
Actor Dev Patel, who has campaigned openly and honestly on racism and favouritism issues, plus TV favourites Alison Hammond and Jermaine Jenas are listed for awards too.
Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah and Arsenal FC talent Bukayo Saka are singled out for their high-profile stances for racial, gender, and faith equality. Joining them in the Sports Personality category is the fastest woman in British history, Dina Asher-Smith.
Musicians Dave, Emeli Sandé and Stormzy are nominated for accolades, whilst Professor Jonathan Van-Tam and the first hijab-wearing MP, Apsana Begum, are also on the shortlist. Comedian Mo Gilligan and international music artist Olivia Rodrigo is listed too.
A number of charities have also been nominated for awards, including Black Heroes Foundation, Muslim Council of Britain and Jewish Women’s Aid.

“These awards exist to shine a light on the individuals, organisations and charities who are helping to make the world a better place for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities during what continues to be a very challenging time.
“The fact there continues to be racist abuse at sporting events, racial profiling in fashion, regressive stances in politics and stereotyping across the board, to name but a few problems shows that we still have a long way to go. However, every nominee here has used their platform to shine a light on issues facing Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.
“I’d therefore like to congratulate all those on the shortlist, you have all done important work to advance equality and promote opportunity. I can’t wait to celebrate with you at the Ethnicity Awards in October.”
